Was Sheikh Al-Shaarawi deviant in creed, as Sheikh Al-Albani mentioned, and should we stop taking from his knowledge and discard his books?
Sheikh Al-Shaarawi is a scholar of great standing and virtue, who has contributed much to the service of Islam. However, he is not infallible and holds some Sufi beliefs. It is incorrect to deem his knowledge impermissible to benefit from, for everyone's words can be accepted or rejected except for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The truth is one, and its source is the Qur'an and Sunnah according to the understanding of the early generations of the Ummah. Men are known by the truth, and the truth is not known by men. The words of peers among people of virtue concerning one another are not to be considered a definitive judgment, nor should they be circulated, as they cause doubts.
