The answer

Allah has commanded fulfilling vows. A legitimate vow must be fulfilled in the manner in which its owner vowed it.

- If you vowed to feed the poor without specifying particular poor individuals, you may feed any poor people of any nationality and in any manner (whether with a ready-made meal or home-cooked food).

- If you vowed to slaughter a young goat and distribute its meat to the poor, you must fulfill that vow and distribute it to the poor and needy without eating from it yourself.

- If you ate from the sheep vowed for the poor and only a small portion was distributed from it, you must compensate for what was not distributed from its meat with some meat and distribute it to them. You are obligated to guarantee what was eaten, either by its value, or by an equivalent amount of meat, or by purchasing a portion of an animal similar to it and participating in its slaughter.
