What does a small child do who feels his death is approaching to the point of writing a will, and feels extreme fear?
Death is a transition from the abode of action to the abode of recompense. Thus, the ease or hardship of death depends on one's deeds. When death approaches a believer, he is given glad tidings of Allah's pleasure and honor, and so he loves to meet Allah. When death approaches a disbeliever, he is given tidings of Allah's punishment and chastisement, and so he dislikes to meet Allah. The wise person prepares for death by pleasing Allah and obeying Him, so that death becomes a transition from hardship to comfort, spaciousness, and happiness. The believer finds rest from the toil and harm of this world in the mercy of Allah, while the wicked person brings relief to the servants, the lands, the trees, and the animals by his death. The fear of death can be directed towards righteous deeds such as memorizing the Qur'an and , maintaining congregational prayers, attending scholarly gatherings, honoring parents, helping the needy, and choosing righteous companionship. There are two types of fear of death: the first is natural and not blameworthy, and the second is blameworthy, which is clinging to this world and its desires, in heedlessness of the Hereafter.
