Must expiation be offered by one who caused his mother's death in a traffic accident due to his drowsiness, knowing that he had informed her of his exhaustion but she insisted on going out, and is it permissible for him to feed sixty poor people as expiation?

Whoever drives a car while drowsy is considered negligent and will be held accountable for whatever befalls those with him, and the expiation (kaffarah) becomes binding upon him. The expiation is freeing a slave; if one cannot find a slave, then fasting for two consecutive months. There is a difference of opinion on whether one feeds the poor if unable to fast.
