Are drawings of animate beings considered demeaning?

Degraded images are those that are placed on the ground or bedding, trodden upon, or discarded. The majority of scholars see no issue with this. Hanbali and Maliki scholars explicitly stated that there is no detestability (karahah) in such images if they are degraded. The distinction is based on the idea that elevated images are glorified and resemble idols, unlike degraded ones. Images on pens might fall into this category, especially children's pens that are thrown around and treated disrespectfully. Even if not, they might be considered among matters that have become widespread and difficult to avoid (ma 'ammat bihi al-balwa), for which a person is not held accountable due to the difficulty of guarding against them, as the images are not intentionally sought out. This is similar to the fatwa issued by Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymin regarding possessing magazines and newspapers containing images for beneficial purposes, given the lack of intention and the difficulty involved.
