A condition for zakat is that it must be transferred to the ownership of the poor person. It is permissible to pay zakat in advance in monthly installments before the end of the year (hawl). As for zakat on jewelry, it is more prudent to pay it, though the majority of scholars hold that zakat is not obligatory on jewelry prepared for adornment.
