What should I do, as I swore tearfully not to disobey Allah concerning a specific matter if He granted me my request, and when He answered my prayer and fulfilled my need, I went back and disobeyed Him in what I swore upon, and now I am overcome with a feeling of hypocrisy and great anxiety?
You have done wrong by falling into sin after having sworn to abandon it, but the door of repentance is open.
You must offer sincere repentance by abandoning the sin, resolving never to return to it, and feeling remorse. You also owe an expiation for breaking your oath: feeding ten poor people, clothing them, or freeing a slave. If you are unable to do any of these, then you must fast for three consecutive days.
If you sincerely repent and expiate for your oath, Allah will accept your repentance, for the one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin. Have a good opinion of Allah and strive in acts of obedience, for indeed, good deeds obliterate evil deeds.
