What is the ruling on a young man speaking with a woman through social media, while observing all boundaries and avoiding speech that could lead to temptation?

The jurists emphasize the prohibition of speaking to a non-mahram woman except out of necessity, as a means of blocking the path to temptation (sadd al-dhari'ah), due to the great temptation men face from women, as mentioned in prophetic traditions. Therefore, speaking [to a non-mahram woman] without necessity is forbidden, like all other means of temptation. It is obligatory to block the means leading to corruption unless it is opposed by a preponderant benefit. So, let the Muslim beware of speaking to women without necessity, and let him not be deluded into thinking he is safe from temptation; for Satan lies in wait for him, and the righteous predecessors warned against the temptation of women. If one speaks to a non-mahram woman out of necessity, let it be only to the extent of that necessity, while adhering to the legitimate Islamic guidelines.
