What is the ruling on working for a company that manufactures a device connecting receivers to televisions to display advertisements, knowing that my work is limited to building programs that display and categorize internet channels?

If channels often contain forbidden content, and your work involves assisting in viewing these forbidden things and facilitating access to them, then your work is not permissible. This is because it falls under cooperating in sin and aggression, which is prohibited in the Quran.
