What is the ruling on refusing treatment for a sick child whose illness leads to disability, or aborting him if his illness is discovered while he is a fetus, on the pretext of bringing him and his parents comfort?

Among the five necessities is the preservation of life, and it is not permissible to transgress against it by abortion if the fetus has been ensouled, or by administering medications that end one's life in search of comfort, due to the generality of Allah's saying: (And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right), and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: (The blood of a Muslim man is not lawful except in one of three cases: a life for a life, the married adulterer, and the one who forsakes his religion and abandons the community).

It is obligatory to seek reward from Allah and be patient in treating the sick, and not to despair of healing, for Allah is the Healer, and the knowledge of lifespans belongs to Him alone. The guardian (of affairs) must prepare means of treatment, and it is obligatory to treat the sick kindly and not neglect their treatment. The presence of those with intellectual disabilities and disabilities is a reminder of Allah's wisdom and power, and a blessing upon the healthy.
