What is the meaning of: "the righteous inner circle (or retinue)"?

A man's inner circle consists of his close associates, confidantes, and advisors. This inner circle can be virtuous if it enjoins good and assists in it, or it can be evil if it enjoins wickedness and assists in it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that a ruler has two types of inner circles: one that commands him to do good and encourages him in it, and another that commands him to do evil and encourages him in it. The one who is protected is he whom Allah protects.
