Is it permissible to draw only the upper, lower, or side half of a face?
What is prohibited in drawing a face is to display its parts in such a way that the observer recognizes it as the face of a living being. However, if the drawing is done without displaying the features of the face, such as the eyes and nose, but only showing its general form, then there is no harm. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said: "That which does not have a clear image despite having limbs, a head, and a neck, but without eyes or a nose: there is no harm in it, because this does not imitate the creation of Allah." And "If the image is not clear, meaning it has no eyes, nose, mouth, or fingers: then this is not a complete image, nor does it imitate the creation of Allah عز وجل."
