Is it permissible to use money obtained from an unlawful act (gambling) to flee a country where unlawful acts are prevalent and move to a safe country, or must this money be disposed of and one wait until another opportunity arises?

It is not permissible for a Muslim to work in gambling, and he must repent to Allah from it, for it is an abomination of Satan’s handiwork, as stated in the words of Allah Almighty: "O you who have believed, indeed intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. Satan only wants to cause animosity and hatred between you through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?" The money earned from gambling is forbidden, but if one possesses nothing else, he may take from it what suffices for a lawful and permissible need.
