Did some of Jesus’ disciples disbelieve when the table was sent down, or did none of them disbelieve?

The early Muslims (Salaf) differed on the issue of the descent of the table (Māʾida) upon the companions of Jesus, peace be upon him. Some of them said it did not descend, while the majority of the Salaf held that it did descend, based on His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, I will send it down to you." This is what Ibn Jarir al-Tabari and the majority of verified scholars upheld. A group of scholars mentioned that among those upon whom the table descended, a community disbelieved, and it was said that they were transformed into apes and pigs. This was mentioned by Al-Baghawi and Ibn Atiyah. A Muslim should ask about what benefits him in his religion, what entails action, and what pleases the Lord of the Worlds.
