What is the ruling on a wife abandoning the marital bed as a form of punishment, and what is the ruling on a husband who seeks pleasure with another woman as a result of her neglect?
It is not permissible for a wife to abandon her husband's bed. Rather, she is obligated to respond to him if he calls her to it. If she refuses without a valid excuse, she will be subject to the threat [of punishment]. Some scholars have permitted her to abandon his bed if he is unjust towards her. If she refuses to respond to him for the bed without justification, then she is considered rebellious, and he has the right to discipline her. It is not the husband's right to fulfill his desire with a foreign woman because of his wife's refusal; rather, he sins by doing so. Instead, he must either marry another if he is capable of being just, or divorce her, or fear Allah and be patient.
