Is the wife sinful for leaving the marital bedroom after her husband's mistreatment of her and his refusal to divorce?
If the husband is unjust and abusive towards his wife, but provides for her adequately, she is not permitted to abandon him in bed or refuse to obey him. The wife is advised to communicate with him, explain the impermissibility of his spying, cursing, and slandering, and demand that he treat her kindly. If this does not help, it is preferable for wise individuals to intervene to reconcile them. If this also fails, she may seek a divorce or khul‘. If he refuses, she has the right to take the matter to court to alleviate the injustice, because the wife has the right to seek a divorce from her husband due to harm, such as abandonment without a valid شرعي reason, or beating, or verbal abuse.
