Is a woman entitled to seek divorce from her husband who neglects her right to marital relations, and is she sinful if she withholds herself from her husband today after he rejected her yesterday?
A husband must treat his wife kindly, and this includes not abandoning the marital bed. It is not permissible for him to leave his wife for a long period that harms her. If his abandonment causes her distress and he is capable (of not doing so), then he is sinful. The wife must respond to her husband if he calls her to bed, and it is forbidden for her to refuse without a legitimate excuse. The husband's shortcoming is not a justification for her shortcoming, and the angels have warned against that. Marital life is based on understanding and tolerance, and it is advisable to be patient and to handle matters with gentleness and leniency.
