A woman is permitted to request a divorce if there is a valid reason for it, such as the husband's ill-treatment or his failure to fulfill her rights. It is the wife's right that her husband make her chaste to the best of his ability, and a man must engage in conjugal relations with his wife in a befitting manner. If the husband does not make his wife chaste, or if he has an ailment that prevents him from intercourse, he must seek treatment. If he does not make her chaste after discussion and understanding, then she has the right to request a divorce or khul'.
