Who are the heirs, and what is the permissible amount for a bequest from the inheritance?

The heirs are those mentioned in the inheritance lists and in previous fatwas. As for the will, it is recommended for someone who has much wealth to bequeath no more than a third to a non-heir, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying to Sa'd: "A third, and a third is much (or large)." What exceeds a third, or a bequest to an heir, depends on the permission of the heirs.
