Is the responsibility of sons and daughters toward their parents equal, or is the son obligated to care for his parents more? And will a daughter be rewarded for her desire to serve her parents if her husband prevents her from doing so, even though he knows that it is obligatory?

Filial piety is obligatory for children, both male and female, due to the generality of the evidence that commands it. However, a man may find forms of piety easier to perform than a woman. If a husband prevents his wife from visiting her parents, scholars have differed on whether she must obey him. The Shafi'is and Hanbalis held that he may prevent her, and she must obey him, but he cannot prevent her from speaking to them or from them visiting her unless harm is feared. If a wife wishes to show piety to her parents and is prevented, she will be rewarded for her sincere intention. The husband should help his wife in showing piety to her parents, as this is part of good companionship.
