Will the prayers of a person who eats and drinks from ill-gotten gains and lies be answered, given his insistence on repentance and abandonment of abominations, or must he first stop lying?

Lying and unlawfully seizing people's money are forbidden and necessitate repentance, returning the money to its owners, or seeking their forgiveness. To overcome debts, one must seek Allah's help, frequently engage in istighfar (seeking forgiveness), send salawat (blessings) upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), supplicate with the Greatest Name of Allah, recite the supplication for distress, the supplication of Yunus (peace be upon him), and the well-known supplications for settling debts, such as:

- "O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provisions against Your forbidden ones, and enrich me by Your bounty beyond anyone else."

- "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, Splitter of the seed and the date stone, Revealer of the Torah, the Injil, and the Furqan, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything You hold by its forelock. You are the First, so there is nothing before You; and You are the Last, so there is nothing after You; and You are the Manifest, so there is nothing above You; and You are the Hidden, so there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debts and enrich us from poverty."

- "O Allah, Possessor of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. The Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, You bestow them upon whom You will and withhold them from whom You will. Have mercy on me with a mercy that makes me independent of the mercy of anyone other than You."
