The sermon is a condition for the validity of Friday prayer, and this is by agreement of the four madhhabs (schools of thought).

Conditions for the Friday sermon: 1. It must be after the entry of the time for Friday prayer. 2. It must be immediately before the prayer, without a long interval. 3. Intention: The preacher must intend for the sermon to be sufficient for Friday prayer. 4. Audibility: The preacher must deliver it audibly to achieve its purpose.

Pillars of the Friday sermon: The only pillar is the minimum that can be conventionally called a sermon, and that which fulfills the purpose of an admonishing sermon that fills the hearts. As for praising Allah, sending blessings upon the Prophet, and reciting the Quran, these are complements and embellishments of the sermon.

Sunnahs of the sermon: It is recommended for the preacher to be ritually pure, dressed in his best clothes, to greet the people, to deliver the sermon from the minbar, to face the congregation, to be truthful in admonition and remembrance, to shorten his sermon, and to make it two sermons.

The preacher must consider the circumstances and needs of the people in the sermon, and not contradict what they are accustomed to regarding recommended acts, and not abandon the commonly known conditions of the sermon to avoid causing difficulty for the people.
