ما هو الواجب فعله في الخطبة؟

The Friday sermon (khuṭbah) requires several things: that it takes place at its appointed time, that it includes praise of Allah, and a recommendation to fear Allah. The preacher must deliver two sermons before a congregation, and these two sermons must precede the prayer, with continuity between them. As for the marriage proposal (khitbah), it is not a pillar or a condition for the validity of the marriage. The preponderant opinion is that it is recommended. Its place is with a woman whose marriage is currently permissible. It is recommended to look at the woman before proposing to her.
