The answer

The guitar is a musical instrument, and Islam has forbidden all musical instruments (ma'azif), based on what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "There will be among my Ummah people who will consider unlawful sexual intercourse, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments to be lawful." It is not permissible to sell them, buy them, learn them, or assist in any of that, because it is considered cooperation in sin, and because learning what is forbidden is forbidden. What is prescribed is to break and destroy them, because that is a form of enjoining good and forbidding evil, and there is no blame on whoever destroys them. Therefore, it is not permissible to learn to play the guitar or to buy its books. One must repent to Allah from that and occupy oneself with what benefits in this world and the Hereafter.
