The answer

To get rid of riya' (showing off), one should constantly be mindful of Allah Almighty's watchfulness over every action and humbly supplicate to Him to be freed from it by saying: "O Allah, we seek refuge in You from associating anything with You knowingly, and we seek Your forgiveness for what we do not know." One must also understand its worldly and otherworldly consequences, for it invalidates deeds and incurs Allah's wrath, and it causes its perpetrator to be exposed in this world. It has been narrated in a that the first people to be fueled into the Fire on the Day of Judgment will be those who showed off. Furthermore, one should conceal acts of worship that are not prescribed to be openly performed, such as night prayers ( al-layl) and charity, to avoid desiring people's praise.
