How did Lady Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, react upon the death of her father, and what was her state during the six months after his passing, and is it true that she lamented and wept a great deal?

The most grievous calamity that befell the Ummah was the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, grieved deeply over him, but she did not do anything that would displease Allah, such as the reprehensible wailing (nawḥ). Rather, she elegized the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with words that expressed her immense pain and patience, such as "Woe, the agony of my father!" when he was in his final moments, and "O my father! He answered a Lord who called him" after his death, and "O Anas! Did your souls find it easy to cast dust upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" when he was buried. These sayings are not among the reprehensible wailing, but rather they are permissible expressions of pain and true ذكر فضائل الميت (mentioning the virtues of the deceased), and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, approved of them.
