Working and earning during Hajj is permissible according to Islamic law, and there is no objection to it. Spending the night in Mina on the ninth night is a Sunnah (definition), not an obligation. Spending the nights in Mina during the days of Tashreeq is obligatory, but it is permissible to forgo it for those who are occupied with serving the interests of the pilgrims, such as doctors and drivers who work to serve the pilgrims. This includes drivers transporting pilgrims. Spending the night in Muzdalifah is obligatory, and if it is not done, it must be compensated for by an offering (slaughtering a sheep). The stay in Muzdalifah is fulfilled by merely being present there, even for an hour, after midnight. Some jurists have permitted those serving the pilgrims to forgo spending the night in Muzdalifah, by analogy with spending the night in Mina, while others hold that it is not permissible to forgo spending the night in Muzdalifah because it is more emphasized. Therefore, the more cautious approach, if one forgoes spending the night in Muzdalifah, is to slaughter an offering in Mecca and distribute it to its poor. Wearing sewn clothes during Ihram (definition), if it is due to an excuse, incurs no sin, but you owe a fidyah (definition) (expiatory offering) with a choice (fasting three days, or feeding six needy persons, or slaughtering a sheep). If it is without an excuse, it involves sin, and you owe the fidyah along with repentance.
