What is the ruling on a woman raising her voice unintentionally?
Sin occurs in what is done intentionally, not by mistake. Allah Almighty says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [there is blame for] what your hearts have intended." Allah has forgiven this Ummah for mistakes and forgetfulness. As for the woman's voice, the preponderant opinion is that it is not considered 'awrah. However, raising it is forbidden if it involves softening the speech in the presence of a non-mahram, due to Allah Almighty's saying: "Then do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet." Therefore, it is not forbidden for a woman to intentionally raise her voice unless it involves softening the speech or if she fears temptation from it.
