What is labeled "copyrighted" is not permissible to publish or copy except with the owner's permission, in preservation of intellectual property rights. Some scholars have allowed this for personal use, provided there is no commercial gain. As for free programs of unknown origin, it is permissible to use them unless it is known that they obtained their material from a copyrighted source without permission.
