Is selling parts of a box of fruits or vegetables, after having bought the entire box and then taking a portion of it, considered cheating or deceiving buyers, knowing that the quantity and price are specified before them, but some buyers think that I am dividing the box?

The basic principle in buying and selling is permissibility, and profit in both is permissible, even if it is many times the capital, provided that the seller is not greedy or selfish, and that he observes ethical considerations in his dealings.

However, concealing the original price of merchandise or taking a portion of it without informing the buyer is forbidden deception (ghish), based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever deceives us is not one of us."

Repentance from this act is obligatory. Previous buyers must be given the choice to either uphold the sale or annul it after being informed of the correct price, or their forgiveness must be sought. If they cannot be reached, then charity must be given with the intention that the reward is for them, with an amount believed to satisfy them. If one of them or their heir appears, they should be given the choice between upholding the charity or receiving the money.
