What is the ruling on a husband neglecting his wife and children emotionally and in daily life matters, and preferring to spend his time with his family and relatives under the pretext of a religious prohibition, and is there anything that clarifies the rights of the wife and children over the husband, legally, other than lodging?

Allah commanded the husband to treat his wife kindly (bi’l-ma‘ruf). This includes fulfilling her rights, refraining from harming her, and beautiful companionship, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to do by playfully interacting with his wives, showing them affection, and conversing with them. As for children, they have the right to upbringing, care, and attention to their affairs, for they are trusts with their parents, and the responsibility of their upbringing is shared between the spouses. Furthermore, a husband's neglect of his wife and children is not part of treating them kindly (bi’l-ma‘ruf). Finally, it is advised to act with wisdom and patience in dealing with these matters to avoid conflict.
