What is the manner of performing Salatul Tasbeeh and its virtue as mentioned in the Prophetic Hadith: "O uncle, shall I not give you? Shall I not grant you? Shall I not bestow upon you? Shall I not do for you ten things, if you do them, Allah will forgive your sins, the first and the last of them, the old and the new, the unintentional and the intentional, the small and the large, the secret and the public, ten things? You should pray four rak'ahs, reciting in each rak'ah Al-Fatihah and a Surah. When you finish the recitation, say: 'Subhanallah wal-hamdulillah wa la ilaha illallah wallahu akbar' fifteen times. Then, bow down and say it ten times while bowing. Then, raise your head from bowing and say it ten times. Then, prostrate and say it ten times while prostrating. Then, raise your head from prostration and say it ten times. Then, prostrate again and say it ten times. Then, raise your head and say it ten times. That is seventy-five times in each rak'ah. You should do that in the four rak'ahs. If you can pray it once every day, then do so. If not, then once every Friday. If not, then once every month. If not, then once every year. If not, then once in your lifetime"?
Salat al-Tasbih is performed with four rak'ahs. In each rak'ah, Surat al-Fatihah and another surah are recited. After completing the recitation in the first rak'ah and before bowing (ruku'), one says: "Subhan Allah, wal-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu Akbar" (Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest) 15 times. Then, it is said 10 times in the ruku', 10 times after rising from the ruku', 10 times in the first prostration (sujud), 10 times after rising from the sujud, 10 times in the second sujud, and 10 times after rising from the second sujud before standing up. This makes a total of 75 tasbihs in one rak'ah, and this is repeated in all four rak'ahs. It is encouraged to perform it daily, or weekly, or monthly, or yearly, or once in a lifetime.
As for its ruling, scholars have differed on its legitimacy based on the authenticity of the hadith reported concerning it. The verifiers of hadith consider it weak. None of the four Imams deemed it recommendable; rather, Imam Ahmad declared it weak and disliked it, and Abu Hanifa, Malik, and Al-Shafi'i had not heard of it. Some hold that the hadith is muddled and that the default rule for acts of worship is prohibition until proof of their legitimacy is established. If it were legitimate, it would have been well-known among the Ummah due to its great benefit.
