One should refrain from delving into the affairs of the deceased, especially those who were righteous. A bad ending occurs due to an internal, hidden corruption unknown to people. However, hidden good deeds within the soul might prevail and lead to a good ending. A bad ending does not befall someone whose inner and outer states are upright; rather, it befalls those whose intentions contain corruption or doubt, and it frequently occurs to those who persist in major sins. One of the signs of a bad ending is dying while committing a sin for which one has not repented.
