What is the meaning of "a wicked machination" and "a hidden commendable trait" mentioned in the fatwa, and are sins of solitude a cause of a bad end, and how can a person die with a good end while having hidden sins?

"Dasīsat al-sūʾ" (evil machination) refers to hidden bad deeds, and "al-khaṣlah al-khafiyyah al-ḥamīdah" (hidden good trait) refers to hidden good deeds. A bad ending results from an inner machination of a bad deed that people are unaware of, and the opposite is true. The fear of bad endings reflects the Salaf's concern that their sins might deceive them at the time of death. A bad ending does not befall one whose outward and inner states are upright, but rather one who has corruption in belief or persists in major sins. Sins committed in private are dangerous and can lead to a bad ending, and a believer is not infallible but repents and increases in good deeds. One who persistently commits sins is the one to be feared for a bad ending, whereas the pious, if they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness, and do not persist in it.
