Does a wife observe the iddah of death or the iddah of divorce after the death of her husband who had divorced her more than once before his death? And does she inherit from him?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a woman is divorced with a definitive (ba'in) or revocable (raj'i) divorce, and her waiting period (iddah) has ended while the husband is alive and well, there is no inheritance between them. This is because the cause of inheritance, which is marriage, has ceased. The waiting period begins from the time of divorce. If the woman was unaware of the necessity of separation, there is no blame upon her, Allah willing, but she incurs sin for her negligence in asking and learning, and she must repent.
