Prayer was enjoined upon the prophets who preceded the nation of Muhammad (peace be upon him), as mentioned in the Holy Quran concerning Abraham, Ishmael, and Jesus (peace be upon them). It was enjoined for a great wisdom and benefit for those upon whom it was enjoined, for Allah is far removed from futility.
