What is the interpretation of the Noble Verse: "It has been made lawful for you the night preceding fasting to approach your wives [for sexual relations]. They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them," and what is meant by "ar-rafath" in it, and why was it coupled with transgression (al-fusooq) in another verse pertaining to Hajj?

This verse is a dispensation from Allah Almighty to Muslims, and an abrogation of what was permissible at the beginning of Islam, when eating, drinking, and sexual intercourse were allowed until the 'Isha prayer or sleep, after which they became forbidden. "Al-rafath" here means sexual intercourse, and it may include everything a man desires from his wife. "Al-rafath" can be permissible or forbidden, such as "al-rafath" during Hajj, which is prohibited by the Almighty's saying: ﴿فَلَا رَفَثَ وَلَا فُسُوقَ وَلَا جِدَالَ فِي الْحَجِّ﴾ (There is to be no sexual intercourse, nor disobedience, nor disputing during Hajj), and this does not mean that it is always forbidden, but rather at specific times like Hajj.
