How can Muslims in the West choose a jurisprudential school of thought to learn their religion, given the availability of shaykhs from all schools of thought?
It is permissible for those mentioned to study any of the four followed madhahib (schools of thought), for there is much good in them, and the imams of these madhahib intended to follow the evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah. It is a condition for whoever wishes to seek knowledge that he choose a proficient shaykh who is knowledgeable in the اصول (foundational principles) of the madhhab he is studying, while avoiding blameworthy fanaticism.
