Is it permissible for un-veiled women to enter a commercial establishment in a country that does not apply Sharia?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for a woman to leave her home displaying her adornments (mutabarrijah), due to the religious prohibition involved. However, since the affliction of displaying adornments has become widespread, and it has become difficult to prevent women who display their adornments from entering commercial establishments and dealing with them, there is no harm in doing so, for Allah Almighty says: "And He has not placed upon you in religion any difficulty." Nevertheless, it remains obligatory to observe the legal guidelines, lower the gaze, condemn the woman who displays her adornments according to one's ability, advise her kindly, and provide her with books and publications that explain the obligation of hijab and the prohibition of displaying adornments.
