What is the ruling on a man working far from his family for a year within his country?

If the wife is content with her husband's absence for more than six months, there is no harm in it. However, if she is not content and requests his presence, then it depends: If his absence is for seeking an essential livelihood, he is excused. But if it is not for seeking a livelihood or for an obligatory act (like travel or Hajj), and the wife requests his presence, then he must comply.
