What is the ruling on sprinkling water on a grave?

If the purpose of sprinkling water on the grave is to stabilize its soil to prevent the wind from uncovering the deceased, then scholars have stipulated its permissibility. However, if the intention is other than that, it is an innovated bid‘ah (innovation), and every bid‘ah is evil.
