Is a person's status with Allah measured by the abundance of their worship, or by their good character, patience in adversity, and charity, along with performing the basic obligatory duties? Is abstaining from marriage for the sake of meeting a deceased spouse in Paradise considered a sin, and is there any reward in that? Is increasing closeness to Allah after the death of a spouse, and all shared acts of charity, accounted for in the deceased spouse's balance of good deeds?

The status of a servant in Paradise does not depend solely on the abundance of worship, but is also influenced by good character. Patience in the face of affliction raises one's rank, just as charity holds great virtue. If a woman is patient after the death of her husband and does not remarry, she will be with him in Paradise if both of them are among its inhabitants, especially if she raises orphans, for by doing so she sponsors an orphan and will be with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in Paradise. Likewise, giving charity on behalf of the deceased benefits them.
