Is it permissible for a man to discipline his wife by refraining from spending her upcoming week with her, because she insulted his other wife, and is there a similar situation to this involving the Messenger of Allah?

It is not permissible to deny a wife her right to an equitable division [of time or resources] due to her ill-treatment of the other wife, as her ill-treatment is not considered an act of defiance (nushooz) that would annul her right. Scholars have differed regarding disciplining a wife for such matters. Some hold that the husband should discipline her himself without referring the matter to a judge. Others permit disciplining her with a beating if she curses or causes harm.

The preponderant opinion is that disciplining a wife with a beating should only occur after admonition and then abandonment in bed prove ineffective.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, dealt with the jealousy of his wives with wisdom and gentleness, justifying the actions of a jealous woman by attributing them to the jealousy inherent in human nature, and that a jealous woman is not held accountable for what emanates from her.

The husband is advised to be wise and gentle with both his wives and strive to reconcile between them.
