What is the ruling on an elderly woman living with her son and his two companions in one house, whether out of necessity or not?

If the woman is a stranger to the two companions, then it is not permissible for them to reside with her in the same house if the rooms are not multiple or if the facilities of the house are shared. However, if the house has multiple rooms and its facilities are separate for each party, then there is no objection.
