Is it an act of disbelief (kufr) to play the television in such a way that the sound of congregational prayer (salat al-jama'ah) mixes with music, and what is the Islamic ruling on this matter?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Listening to songs and playing musical instruments are forbidden, whereas listening to the Quran is an act of worship through which mercy is sought, and Allah has commanded attentive listening to the Quran.

Therefore, one who plays songs and the Quran at the same time commits several transgressions: 1. Listening to forbidden songs. 2. Not listening attentively and reflecting upon the verses of the Quran. 3. Lack of proper respect for the Holy Quran.

These transgressions are sins and misdeeds that necessitate repentance, and they are not expiated. This ruling specifically applies to one who sits listening to songs and the Quran at the same time. However, if the sound of songs reaches someone unintentionally, there is no sin upon them.
