What is the ruling on wiping over short socks due to ignorance for a year or more?

Among the conditions for the permissibility of wiping over socks is that they must cover the obligatory area, which is the feet up to the ankles. A prayer that does not fulfill its conditions is invalid. If the socks do not cover the obligatory area, then the prayer is invalid. Scholars differ concerning one who omitted a condition out of ignorance; the majority of scholars obligate making up the prayer (qada'), which is the more cautious approach and clears one's conscience.
