What is the virtue of one who spends from his wealth to illuminate one of the mosques of Allah?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Spending money on building, illuminating, cleaning, and maintaining mosques is among the greatest acts of devotion to Allah the Almighty. Allah the Almighty said: {In houses which Allah has permitted to be raised}, and scholars of exegesis interpreted "raised" as honoring them, which includes illuminating them. Allah has praised those who maintain His mosques, saying: {Only those shall maintain Allah’s mosques who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and establish regular prayer and pay the zakat and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be among the guided.} This maintenance includes both physical aspects, such as construction, upkeep, and illumination, and spiritual aspects, such as prayer, reciting the Quran, and seeking knowledge. And whoever spends on illuminating a mosque falls within this great merit.
