Is the urine of a baby boy who drinks artificial milk pure?

The urine of a male infant is impure according to the majority of scholars, whether he is one month old or older, even if he is only breastfed and has not yet eaten solid food. The prevailing opinion is that a boy's urine is impure, but the Lawgiver has made its purification lenient.

The washing of his urine is made lighter if he has not eaten solid food; sprinkling (nadh) suffices, and a full washing is not required. The meaning of "has not eaten solid food" is that he has not been nourished independently by anything other than milk.

Some scholars believe that "has not eaten solid food" means his nourishment comes from milk, whether human or animal, and does not refer to his sucking on something placed in his mouth and swallowing it as food, nor to eating without appetite. Thus, the one who "eats solid food" is he who desires and consumes it or yearns for it.

As a precaution for worship, it is advisable to wash the urine of a male infant if he relies on formula milk.
