Is an infant najis (impure)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The infant's body and clothes are pure (tahir). As for their waste, it is impure (najis) like any other, except that the urine of a suckling boy who has not yet eaten solid food is purified by sprinkling water (nadh) as a concession. The urine of a baby girl, however, must be washed. The vomit of an infant is considered impure by the majority of scholars. Their saliva is pure (tahir), and anything that might get on clothes from it is excused due to hardship and need.
