What should be done or prepared for to receive a new baby after a day or two, and is there a specific Sunnah that should be followed?

There are no specific lawful acts to welcome a newborn before birth, other than supplicating for their well-being and righteousness.

As for after birth, the following are recommended: 1. Tahneek (rubbing the palate) of the newborn and supplicating for them: By placing a date or honey in their mouth and supplicating for blessings upon them. 2. Naming the newborn: Permissible on the first or seventh day. 3. Aqiqah and Circumcision: Aqiqah: Slaughtering a sheep for the newborn on the seventh day, which releases them from being pledged, and is considered an offering and a ransom. Circumcision: One of the practices of fitra (natural disposition) and obligatory for a boy due to its connection with purity. 4. Adhan in the right ear: It is recommended to call the Adhan in their right ear so that the first thing they hear is the word of monotheism. The Iqamah in the left ear has not been authentically established. 5. Shaving the head hair and giving charity equivalent to its weight: Shaving the newborn's head hair and anointing it with saffron. It is legislated to give charity equivalent to the weight of the hair in gold or silver, or its equivalent in money by estimation.
